Margie Sheppard, BSN, MLS

Training Specialist - NTO, NTO

Margie is the Training Specialist for NTO. She joined NNLM in 2019 and recently served as Community Engagement Coordinator for NNLM Region 3.  She has an undergraduate degree in nursing and a master's in library science. She has taught a number of classes for NNLM and presented at local, regional and national conferences on health information and access.

Measurements of Health Literacy This webinar explores the dual nature of health literacy measurement: assessing the readability of written materials and evaluating an individual’s ability to comprehend and apply health information.
Medical Nutrition Therapy in Clinical Practice: Enhancing patient outcomes This presentation will introduce participants to the foundational principles of Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) and highlight how it differs from general nutrition education or wellness advice. Attendees will gain insight into the specialized role of the Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) in the development of an individualized plan of care and nutrition therapy interventions. Conditions such as diabetes, obesity, kidney disease, and gastrointestinal disorders, for which MNT is particularly effective will be discussed.
