Health Professionals Outreach Specialist, Region 6

Nora Barnett is the Health Professions Outreach Specialist at Network of the National Library of Medicine, Region 6. She helps health professionals, public health departments, and community based organizations increase organizational health literacy and meet the health information needs of their communities. Nora organizes webinars featuring guest speakers that offer continuing education to nurses and health educators. She developed and teaches the courses Health Literacy On-Demand, Prescription & Over the Counter Drugs, and Effective Health Communication and Health Literacy: Understanding the Connection.

Promoting Walking for Health in Rural Communities Rural American adults have higher rates of chronic physical activity-related illness and are less active than their urban counterparts, with less than 20% meeting U.S. physical activity guidelines. Learn about an ongoing study that combines an evidence-based guide for group-based walking programs for cancer survivors and their friends and family with capacity building for rural libraries. Sources of Airborne PCBs in Schools This talk will summarize the latest research on PCBs, especially PCBs in air of schools where they remain present in caulking, adhesives, and electrical equipment.
