Health Literacy Integration Initiative
Updated: 8/28/25. Health literacy is a critical component of patient empowerment, effective healthcare delivery, and improved public health outcomes. This proposal seeks funding to establish a comprehensive Health Literacy Integration Initiative at AdventHealth University, a faith-based institution affiliated with the Seventh-day Adventist Church. As a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI), AHU serves a diverse student population, with 30.6% of Fall 2024 enrollment identifying as Hispanic. This initiative will provide a series of health literacy events, educational resources, and a full-day Health Literacy Conference aimed at patients, clinicians, students, faculty, and community members. A key focus of this project is to reach medically underserved and under-/non-insured patients through partnerships with the AHU Hope Clinic and the Orange County Library System. By providing expert-led discussions, interactive workshops, and access to reliable health information, we will enhance the ability of individuals to navigate healthcare effectively and make informed decisions, ultimately leading to better health outcomes for vulnerable populations.
