Subaward Project
Listening, Learning, and Participating in Disability Visibility at Sam Houston State University
Our goal is to increase the visibility of people with disabilities at Sam Houston State University (SHSU). The chosen book for Spring 2022 diversity reader is Disability Visibility: First-Person Stories from the Twenty-First Century -- Alice Wong (Editor). As the health sciences librarian I want to introduce the All of Us Research Program in conjunction with this diversity reader during the spring semester by conducting listening, learning, and participatory sessions held in the Newton Gresham Library.
Our campus community is the intended audience. As a rural, minority-majority institution, SHSU is uniquely positioned to engage communities that are historically underrepresented in biomedical research.
Our impact will be to increase visibility of disability, raise awareness of the All of Us program, educate on judging health claims, and raise awareness of trusted health information from MedlinePlus. The outcome will increase health literacy in our diverse community
