All of Us Work(out) Together
The Cherokee Public Library endeavors to examine health and wellness in the community and to focus on the stories of wellness. For this avenue, we have a partnership with the school’s cross country team and the community wellness center. We have found several members in the community who have also with been runners since cross country in high school, or began running later in life. The team has been looking at the toolkit and Storycorps app and are wanting to try and do interviews via short videos, which are easier to share and break down into smaller groups. The second idea plays into work the library is doing within esports. For this, we have begun working with area nursing and care facilities to utilize our Nintendo switch create sports leagues. The purpose of these leagues is to help seniors learn and experience new technology while also having time to reminisce about sports and recreation while they were younger. The seniors we have talked with thus far are excited as this gives them a way to share about their health (several were big time sports celebrities back in the day before traumatic events) and we are creating pathways for the leagues to interact asynchronously while creating rapport with former neighbors and fellow community members.
