Evaluation of Elicit AI for Clinical Inquiry
To advance evidence-based practice (EBP) and clinical decision-making at UC Davis Health (UCDH) - a leading academic health system in inland Northern California that serves a broad and diverse patient population, including many rural and medically underserved communities across the Central Valley - this project will evaluate the effectiveness and suitability of a generative AI evidence synthesis tool (Elicit) for clinical inquiry. Over a 6-month period, librarians at the Blaisdell Medical Library (BML) and staff at the UCDH Center for Nursing Science will integrate Elicit into clinical inquiry workflows that support literature searching, evidence interpretation, and the creation of evidence tables for clinical projects. Using a clinician-in-the-loop approach, the team will assess helpfulness, comprehension, correctness, completeness, and risk of clinical harm compared to traditional search and synthesis methods. Findings from this evaluation will guide future institutional decisions about the adoption of Elicit to support nurse scientists in delivering evidence-informed care.
