Subaward Project

The project Strengthening the Emergency Response Capacities of Older Latino Adults Exposed to Disasters seeks to meet the knowledge needs expressed by a group of people over 55 years of age who live in housing projects in three municipalities in southwest Puerto Rico. This shall be done through the development of an educational curriculum in emergency preparedness. Through the curriculum, it is expected to train on family and community preparedness, while being exposed to the use of the internet, digital health literacy, media literacy and infodemic, knowledge about access to telemedicine, as well as disease management in emergencies, and adherence to health treatments. The housing project libraries would become spaces that support the community learning process. The implementation of the preparedness curriculum will help to strengthen collaboration ties among institutions such as the Emergency Management Offices, the Citizen Assistance Offices, and the primary health centers.
