Discover Good Health & Wellness @ Hartford Public Library - NAPC Partnership Project Award

Hartford Public Library will partner with the NNLM All of Us Healthcare Provider Organization, Community Health Center, Inc. (CHC) and other local community organizations to offer health and wellness literacy programs to help further individual and communities’ knowledge of and skills related to health literacy and wellness and understanding of clinical medical research.  Our collaborative work will help raise awareness of biomedical research, precision medicine and how community health research has and will inform advances in healthcare.

Hartford Public Library plans to offer a 6-month health and wellness series beginning in November of 2023 thru April of 2024 covering topics such as domestic violence, mental and behavioral health, clinical health, wellness, nutrition, heart health, diabetes management, medical research and clinical trials, and health literacy outreach.  Each program, offered at both branch locations and community locations will be accompanied with resources and guidance to support individuals with finding, understanding, and using information that informs health related decisions.

HPL with healthcare provider organization CHC and other community-based organizations will offer health and wellness information and All of Us initiative information associated with each program’s theme.  Access to EBSCO online health library, MedlinePlus online service of the National Library of Medicine and All of Us information modules will be available in person and online with technical support if needed.

The projects’ intended audience are Hartford residents including the following special populations: seniors, women, families who experience food insecurity, and uninsured and underinsured individuals. HPL will reach the target audiences though outreach at Senior Centers, Community Centers, CT Foodshare mobile and pantry stops and through HPL hosted wellbeing programs at branch locations. HPL will collaborate with longtime community partners who support community health and are able to provide high quality content in areas such as, clinical health and pediatrics, health insurance, mental and behavioral health, physical fitness and wellbeing, nutrition support, and domestic violence.
