APHA 2024 Theme, Goals & Objectives and alignment with NNLM

The theme of the American Public Health Association (APHA) Annual Meeting & Expo is Rebuilding Trust in Public Health and Science.  Public health is inherently future-focused, looking toward prevention and promotion to enable populations to live longer, healthier lives.  However, recent political polarization, underfunding and distrust of scientific research threaten our ability to create optimal, equitable health and well-being for all. The promise and effectiveness of public health are challenged by pseudoscience. Given this discord, we need to rebuild trust in public health and science (Source: https://www.apha.org/events-and-meetings/annual).  The goals and objectives of the APHA 2024 Annual Meeting & Expo (annual meeting) and those of NNLM are complementary. Funding for attendance and participation at the annual meeting is requested. The following table lists goals and objectives

Additionally, the theme of the annual meeting directly aligns with two national NNLM initiatives, namely, Confronting Health Misinformation and Bridging the Digital Divide.  My leadership in the APHA-Health Informatics Information Technology Section (HIIT), training in public health & public health informatics, and work experience, have equipped me to be well-versed on topics concerning public health and health information technology, with a specific focus on health equity for marginalized populations.  A booth for HIIT will be in place at the meeting venue. I could disseminate NNLM, trusted health information to attendees.

In closing, generous funding provided by NNLM to attend and participate in the annual meeting would provide a platform to highlight NNLM national initiative(s), namely Confronting Health Misinformation to ~12,000 attendees while dually enhancing my professional development and community outreach.  I greatly appreciate your review of my application
