Funding Opportunities

The purpose of the Emerging Leader Award is to motivate and prepare a mid-career (at least 5 years) information professional preparing for a position of leadership in a health sciences library.

Funding is used for travel expenses, supplies, and an honorarium for mentors. 

The purpose of the Leadership Pathways Award is to assist current early-to-mid-career information professionals in exploring different forms of influence and leadership within the health sciences library profession.

The purpose of the Express Health Information Outreach Award is to provide support for projects that improve health information literacy and increase the ability of consumers, caregivers, students, and other members of the public to find, access, and use health information.

Subaward activities may start earlier (no earlier than May 1, 2025) or may be delayed depending on how quickly each institution is able to process paperwork. 

The purpose of the Health Information Outreach Award is to ensure that healthcare professionals, patients, and the public are introduced to authoritative health information. This award provides support for projects that improve health information literacy and increase the ability of consumers, caregivers, students, and other members of the public to find and use health information.

The goal of this program is to introduce the future LIS workforce to the health sciences, trusted National Library of Medicine (NLM) resources, and develop their professional skills. Awardees will attend the Annual Meeting of the South Central Chapter of the Medical Library Association (SCC/MLA), October 24-29, 2025 in Little Rock, AR. Additionally, with coaching from a talented NNLM professional, each awardee will deliver a 20-minute (approximate) virtual presentation on an NLM resource or NNLM priority in December 2025 as part of an online webinar series hosted by NNLM Region 3 (Health Bytes with Region 3). Awardees may have additional opportunities if applicable.

Up to $2,500 is reimbursed for allowable expenses associated with participation in meetings - $500 is reserved for registration and other associated costs, contingent on approval and direction from NNLM.

The purpose of the Exhibit Award is to conduct outreach to the region through conferences or by hosting exhibits within their own institutions and to build professional capacity in support of the goals of the NNLM.

Maximum 2 awards available. Application Deadline: Ongoing until funds are expended or April 1, 2026.

The purpose of the Professional Development Award is to enable individuals in Region 3 Network Member institutions to expand professional knowledge and experience to provide improved health information access to healthcare providers and consumers.
