Advancing Disaster Preparedness and Everyday Readiness: Leveraging Pediatric Pandemic Network (PPN) Resource Central for Health Education and Community Impact

Access to trusted, evidence-informed disaster preparedness resources is essential for strengthening health education and community resilience. This session introduces the Pediatric Pandemic Network (PPN) and Resource Central, a librarian-curated, SME-reviewed database of more than 4,000 multilingual resources designed to support healthcare professionals, families, and schools. Participants will learn practical strategies to efficiently locate, organize, and disseminate high-quality preparedness materials to enhance health literacy, informed decision-making, and community outreach.

Presenters:

Dr. Paul J. Stengel, EdD, is Director of Education for the Pediatric Pandemic Network (PPN), where he leads national strategies to advance disaster preparedness and everyday emergency readiness through evidence-informed education and resource dissemination. He oversees Resource Central, a librarian-curated, SME-reviewed database of more than 4,000 resources that supports healthcare professionals, families, and schools in accessing, organizing, and sharing trusted preparedness information. With expertise in instructional design, learning science, and workforce enablement, Dr. Stengel specializes in translating complex evidence into practical tools that strengthen health literacy, support informed decision-making, and enhance community resilience nationwide.

Christine Willis, MLIS, AHIP is a Clinical Information Librarian at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, where she provides expert research support to clinicians and advances evidence-based practice. Her expertise includes health literacy, accessible library services, and teaching healthcare professionals how to efficiently locate and evaluate high-quality research for clinical and community application. She is a published author and national presenter, a contributor to MS Focus, a column editor for the Journal of Hospital Librarianship, and a Senior member of the Academy of Health Information Professionals.
