This presentation offers a guided tour of the National Library of Medicine’s history of medicine resources, highlighting the rich collections, research tools, digital content, and exhibitions available through the History of Medicine website. Participants will learn how to discover and explore rare books and journals, archival collections, historical images, films and videos, digitized primary sources, and curated exhibitions, while becoming familiar with key resources such as Digital Collections, Images from the History of Medicine, Finding Aids, Profiles in Science, and Medicine on Screen. Through examples drawn from NLM’s collections, the presentation will demonstrate how these resources can support research, teaching, storytelling, and exploration of the many ways medicine and public health have shaped—and been shaped by—society over time.
Presenter:
Erika Mills works in the Collection Branch of NLM’s User Services and Collection Division, where she helps define digitization priorities as part of the Digitization Team. She began at NLM in 2005 as a Community Outreach Coordinator in the Exhibition Program. Erika holds a BA in African Studies from the University of Pennsylvania.
