Data services in libraries has grown over the years, especially as grant-funding agencies and publications have been adding requirements for data sharing and data management. Pathways to Data Services is a four-part short course designed to share ideas about establishing and building out data services in academic libraries. Essential to this process is learning about your community's needs, tips for which will be covered in every session. Starting with a panel to show various approaches to building data services programs, and moving through ideas on conducting data interviews, finding data, and the NIH Data Management and Sharing Plan, this short course will focus on low cost, high impact services that are good to consider in this area. This series will be interactive, and registrants can expect to participate in activities, reflections, and group discussions around the topics presented.  

Session 4 (October 23): The NIH Data Management and Sharing Policy

The NIH DMSP is a good way to engage with your community around data services. Shanda Hunt, Research Data Education & Outreach Librarian at University of Minnesota Libraries, will talk about the policy, what she has learned about providing data services around the policy, and insights into marketing data services.
