The purpose of the Emerging Leader Award is to motivate and prepare a mid-career (at least 5 years) information professional preparing for a position of leadership in a health sciences library.

Funding is used for travel expenses, supplies, and an honorarium for mentors. 

The purpose of the Leadership Pathways Award is to assist current early-to-mid-career information professionals in exploring different forms of influence and leadership within the health sciences library profession.

The purpose of the Professional Development Award is to 1) strengthen the professional knowledge and experience of individual network members in health data or health information access related services, 2) empower libraries and other organizations to train staff in skills needed to deliver reliable health information, and 3) build professional capacity in support of specific Region 4 Core Aims, the NNLM mission, and the NLM 2017-2027 Strategic Plan.

The purpose of the Express Health Information Outreach Award is to provide support for projects that improve health information literacy and increase the ability of consumers caregivers, students, and other members of the public to find, access, and use health information.

Subaward activities may start earlier (no earlier than May 1, 2025) or may be delayed depending on how quickly each institution is able to process paperwork. 

The purpose of the Health Information Outreach Award to ensure that healthcare professionals, patients, and the public are introduced to authoritative health information. This award provides support for projects that improve health information literacy and increase the ability of consumers, caregivers, students, and other members of the public to find and use health information.

Subaward activities may start earlier (no earlier than May 1, 2025) or may be delayed depending on how quickly each institution is able to process paperwork.

The purpose of the Exhibit Award is to conduct outreach to the region through conferences or by hosting exhibits within their own institutions and to build professional capacity in support of the goals of the NNLM. Individuals may only be awarded once per annual performance cycle.

The purpose of the Professional Development Award is to enable individuals in Region 3 Network Member institutions to expand professional knowledge and experience to provide improved health information access to healthcare providers and consumers.

Ongoing until funds are expended or award end date.

The Network of the National Library of Medicine (NNLM) Region 5, under cooperative agreement with the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM), announces the availability of funding through Professional Development Awards to increase knowledge, skills and competencies of NNLM network members on areas related to NLM priorities.

Network member organizations in Region 5 are eligible to apply. Only one award per Network member organization will be made during the current grant year. Awards will be available on an ongoing basis until funds are depleted. Payment will be made to the applicant’s host institution.

To receive funding, applicant’s institution must invoice the University of Washington (UW) no later than March 18, 2024. In order to invoice the UW, the institution must be registered as a UW supplier (for information on registering, contact Region 5 Grants Manager Lisa Guerrero via email: guerrl@uw.edu)

The purpose of the Virtual Professional Development Award is to enable individuals in Region 3 Network Member institutions to expand professional knowledge and experience to provide improved health information access to healthcare providers and consumers.

The purpose of the Outreach & Engagement Award is to increase access and use of quality online health information, improve health literacy and increase health equity through engagement and training for health information.

The Network of the National Library of Medicine (NNLM) Region 5, under cooperative agreement with the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM), announces the availability of funding through its Technology Improvement Award to support infrastructure that improves equitable access to biomedical and health information.

4 awards available, pending budget availability. Awards are cost-reimbursable and are issued to the institution, not the individual. 

The goal of this program is to introduce the future LIS workforce to the health sciences, trusted National Library of Medicine (NLM) resources, and develop their professional skills. With coaching from a talented NNLM professional, each awardee will deliver a 15-minute presentation (approximate) on an NLM resource or NNLM priority during the Annual Meeting of the South Central Chapter of the Medical Library Association (SCC/MLA) October 25-29, 2024 in Dallas, TX. Awardees may have additional presentation opportunities if applicable.

Up to $2,500 is reimbursed for expenses associated with participation in meetings - $500 is reserved for registration and other associated costs.
