Presentation Description
Extreme weather events can have significant effects on individual and community health, while also disrupting the services and resources communities rely on. This training will examine the health impacts of extreme heat and other disasters and consider how libraries may be affected by and respond to these events. Participants will explore practical ways libraries and librarians can support their communities during periods of extreme heat and throughout each phase of the disaster management cycle, including mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery.
Speaker Bio
Dr. Nancy Rudner, DrPH, MPH, APRN, has focused her career on improving health through the lifespan through patient care, population health, and policy. Her research examining farmworker workplace heat conditions was included in the OSHA hearings on worker heat protection regulations. As a disaster care nurse, Dr. Rudner has responded to several extreme weather disasters. She is a heat and health advocate with the Florida Clinicians on Climate Action (FCCA). She is a professor at the Medical University of South Carolina College of Nursing.
