We are excited to offer a Data Carpentry workshop on October 25 and 26, 2023 for our NNLM Members in order to learn about steps and tools for quality, efficiency, and reproducibility in research. This workshop is a partnership between Region 1 and Region 2, with priority registration to attendees in these states and territories: Alabama, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Tennessee, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands

In this two-day interactive, hands-on workshop you will learn core software and data skills, with lessons including:

The target audience is as follows: learners who have little to no prior computational experience, and the instructors put a priority on creating a friendly environment to empower learners and enable data-driven discovery. Even those with some experience will benefit, as the goal is to teach not only how to do analyses, but how to manage the process to make it as automated and reproducible as possible. Biomedical and health sciences librarians and LIS students are encouraged to participate.

  • This workshop will be held via Zoom, from 9:00am – 4:00pm EST each day.

  • Participants must have access to a computer or laptop (no tablets or Chromebooks) with Windows, Mac, or Linux operating system and an internet connection that can support a Zoom video meeting.

  • Participants must agree to follow the Carpentries Code of Conduct.

  • Participants will be responsible for downloading some files and software before the workshop. Setup instructions will be provided prior to the workshop.

There are 20 seats available. They will generally be awarded on a first-come-first serve basis; additional registrants will be added to a wait list if the class is full. Please only register if you are able to attend the full two days of the workshop (there will be breaks throughout the days, but learners are expected to attend for the full duration). Registration will close October 6, 2023.

All participants in the virtual workshop are eligible for 14 Medical Library Association Continuing Education credits! This is thanks to the CE partnership between the NNLM and the MLA.
