Participants will learn about the community in which their library is located and develop skills to build constructive relationships and bridge cultural differences.
Building Successful Collaborations with Communities ***Pilot*** This 4-week, 12 credit-hour online class integrates the theory of community engagement with its application to libraries. Participants will learn about the community in which their library is located and develop skills to build constructive relationships and bridge cultural differences.
Course 1: Building Successful Collaborations with Communities: Community-Based Librarianship This 2-week online course introduces the concept of community-based librarianship using design theory and appreciative inquiry.
Course 2: Building Successful Collaborations with the Communities: Asset-Based Community Development This 2-week course describes the principles of Asset-Based Community Development as a tool for building community coalition and for community storytelling.
Course 3: Building Successful Collaborations with the Communities: Collective Impact This 2-week online course describes the essential elements of Collective Impact approach to community engagement, based on design theory.
Course 4: Building Successful Collaborations with the Communities: Grassroots Leadership This 2-week online course uses the knowledge and tools presented in previous courses of the series, and explores the process to construct a framework for a community development initiative and the role of librarians in grassroots leadership activism.
