NNLM Region 5 - Tech Equity Award - Y3

The project will support data infrastructure that improves student access to biomedical and health information including underserved, minority and underrepresented communities such as:

  • Racial and ethnic minority populations
  • Sexual and gender minority populations
  • Populations reported below the Federal Poverty Level
  • Populations with limited access to medical care
  • Populations with physical and/or mental disabilities
  • Soldiers, Veterans and Military Families
  • Rural Populations

Health Informatics students would have access to this “Database of Datasets” that would provide a one-stop shop for students seeking public domain health data. Although the HIDD will incorporate a variety of health provider and population health data, the data will not contain patient identifiers or be subject to HIPAA constraints or IRB oversight.

With streamlined access to a variety of data types, students will have more time available to practice analytics skills in SQL, Tableau, Python, R, and other applications that can connect with a SQL database structure. Access to this data will help students develop their programming and analytical skills
