Explore collaborative partnerships between libraries and bioinformatics programs featuring expert speakers from University of Michigan Taubman Health Sciences Library and the NYU Health Sciences Library’s Data Services team.
Friday, October 11, 2-3pm ET | 1-2pm CT | 12-1pm MT | 11am-12pm PT
Marci Brandenburg, University of Michigan
Marci Brandenburg has an MS in biology from Ohio University and an MSI from the University of Michigan. She is the Bioinformationist at the University of Michigan’s Taubman Health Sciences Library where she works closely with the Bioinformatics Core and Department of Computational Medicine & Bioinformatics.
Marci will discuss the partnership between the University of Michigan Taubman Health Sciences Library’s Bioinformationist and the Medical School’s Bioinformatics Core. It will cover the evolution of the Bioinformationist’s role with the Core from outreach and software licensing to project management and co-hosting workshops. The value and significance of this relationship will also be discussed.
Fred LaPolla, New York University
Fred LaPolla is head of the NYU Health Sciences Library’s Data Services team and liaison to the Departments of General Internal Medicine and Clinical Innovation (DGIMCI) and Radiology. He is passionate about professional education and finding ways to facilitate learning around data collection, management, visualization and analysis.
Fred will discuss ways that NYU Health Sciences Library’s involvement in bioinformatics has evolved over the years including provision of training in coding for data analysis, to deepening work with NYU's biomedical sciences PhD program. He will explain how an organic process of being open to opportunities has helped cement involvement in bioinformatics and furthered the libraries’ provision of support services.
