The Role of Qualitative Research in Evidence-Based Practice

This webinar will provide a high-level overview of evidence-based practice (EBP) and the role of qualitative research. During the webinar we will cover formulating clinical questions on mental health topics, searching the literature, and review the overall role of the librarian in supporting the EBP process.

Instructor Bios:

Jessica Diaz, MLIS, AHIP is a Research and Education Informationist at the Medical University of South Carolina Libraries. She serves as the liaison to the College of Medicine and supports students, residents, staff, and faculty in their learning of evidence-based practice and addressing reference needs. Jessica is also the co-chair for the Early Career Librarian Initiative for the Southern Chapter of MLA.

Rachel Whitney, MLIS, AHIP, is an Assistant Professor at the Medical University of South Carolina where she works as a Research and Education Informationist. In this role, she serves as liaison to the College of Pharmacy and Speech-Language Pathology program. Rachel provides embedded instruction on drug information resources, literature searching, and critical appraisal to support health professions students develop their evidence-based practice skills. In addition, Rachel has served as a faculty member in the Evidence-Based Practice for Health Sciences Librarians 3-day course.

Christine Andresen, MLS, MSIT is an Associate Professor at the Medical University of South Carolina, where she works as a Research and Education Informationist. In this role, she provides library and evidence-based practice instruction to support the development of information-literate health professionals prepared to integrate research into the clinical decision-making process. In addition to educating students, Christine has been a faculty member in the Evidence-Based Practice for Health Sciences Librarians 3-day course and co-facilitated a 1-day evidence-based practice session for instruction librarians and library directors at the NNLM Region 2 HBCU Summit.
