Wikipedia + Libraries: NNLM (March 25-April 19, 2024) March 25, 2024 - April 19, 2024 Gain insight into the value of Wikipedia as a viable reference and build the skills and knowledge needed to evaluate articles, with a specific focus on health and medical topics in a self-paced, online class over four weeks. Expect to spend about 2 hours a week exploring through discussion forums, readings, tutorials, and learn about the #CiteNLM Wikipedia edit-a-thon and the free resources, programming and training that NNLM offers to libraries. This class addresses increasing health information access and use, and the NNLM initiatives of confronting health misinformation and citizen science by engaging communities in editing Wikipedia health-related articles with well-sourced additions, and gaining insight into the value of Wikipedia as a viable reference tool for health and medical topics.

PFAS and Environmental Health: Information and Tools for Public Health Practitioners and Information Specialists March 26, 2024 Join us for a talk PFAS Project Lab, a multi-disciplinary research group, about resources and databases they offer and how public health practitioners and information specialists can use them to inform diverse stakeholders. This webinar fits with the mission of the NNLM to provide public health professionals and the public at large equal access to environmental health resources to enable them to make informed decisions about population and their own health.  This class is for education and informational purposes in alignment with NNLM goals, the NNSC approved national initiative on Environmental Determinants of Health, and does not offer medical advice.

Getting the Right Information to Patients Using MedlinePlus Connect On-demand through April 13, 2025 This 1 hour on-demand class introduces MedlinePlus Connect, and points to resources for implementing MedlinePlus Connect at your institution. MedlinePlus Connect is a tool that enables the integration of MedlinePlus resources into external systems like electronic health record systems, patient portals, and other applications. Working knowledge of MedlinePlus is suggested pre-requisite.

Health Literacy On Demand On-demand through April 30, 2026 Learn about health literacy definitions, best practices, tools for communicating health information clearly, and resources for improving health literacy.
