This course integrates the theory of community engagement with its application to libraries. The course is designed using the Preparation, Action, Reflection model. We will share step-by-step methods and best practices for engaging with communities to co-design and co-develop library offerings. Participants will learn about the community in which their library is located and develop skills to build constructive relationships and bridge cultural differences. They will gain practical experience with engagement methods and share their experiences in implementing several stages of engagement.
The course is led by Dr. Ling Hwey Jeng, Director of the Texas Woman's University School of Library and Information Studies.
About the Pilot
Students who are part of the pilot are required to provide additional information, on top of the course work and standard evaluation, to advise the course creator/instructor that can be used to improve the course when it is offered later in the year.
This means, on top of the 12 contact hours required to sufficiently engage in the course content, there will be approximately 2-3 hours on top and one hour might include a meeting in Zoom for discussion. We are still hammering out those details (I will add this info to the class registration pages)
***The pilot registration seats have all been filled***
There will be additional course offerings starting late summer 2023 through Spring 2024.
If you'd like to be placed on a waitlist for the pilot or be informed when the class will be offered in the future, please contact:
